John Deere BI
"Old Yeller"

This John Deere BI named Old Yeller came to us from Newport, New York in 2001. It was originally purchased for the Village of Ilion by the local gun manufacturer to plow the local sidewalks enabling it’s employees could walk to work.

It was in our shop for approximately 1 1/2 years requiring the radiator to be re-cored, gas tank cleaned & lined. We relined the brake bands, and replaced the axle shaft seals in the rear end. The oil pump drive coupler had been broken from water collecting and freezing in the crankcase. This was due largely to not changing the oil and not keeping water out of the engine. The carburetor was rebuilt along with the generator, starter, magneto, all the gauges were replaced, the wiring, muffler, choke cable & the old tires.

A new hood, floor and the rims were replaced; the snow plow needed massive repairs with lots of spot putty, primer & paint to cover the 60 plus years of rust & pits.

The finishing touch was a few coats of urethane enamel. Old Yeller and his garage mate Buttercup has been at the two cylinder show twice and participated in many local parades around New York State. You can see more pictures of this BI by clicking the following link.
