 Massey Harris 44 Tractor

The first Massey Harris tractor appeared in 1946. It was followed a year later by the 44 Row Crop version, In 1948 a diesel standard was introduced, followed in the next year by a diesel row crop version. Production ended in 1955.

This old classic 1951 Massey Harris tractor is from the old Loewenstein family farm formally located on Route 32, just south of Norwich, New York. Family members saved their favorite tractors from the auction block in 2005, and this Massey Harris tractor was the second to be restored by a Loewenstein son. The first tractor restored in 2006, was a John Deere B.

Before any sandblasting or painting will be done on this tractor all mechanical issues must be addressed. Once a tractor is painted the last thing you want to do is to have take a wrench to it and scar the beautiful paint.

The tractor had many oil leaks including the rear main seal transmission input shaft seal, brake seals, axle & the belt pulley seal. All fluids & filters were changed and the cooling system was flushed. The Zenith Carburetor was rebuilt, and the tractor was tuned up with new plug wires. The wiring was old like the rest of the tractor so it was replaced along with a new water pump and steering wheel. Finally the steering gear end play & backlash were adjusted, the gear box was greased, the oil pump screen was cleaned and the radiator was repaired. The tractor has been painted with the wheels off. They were painted prior to the tractor so that the paint on the rims had time to cure before mounting them back on this old Massey tractor. This tractor had been painted before and it had yellow over-spray on the tires, so they needed to be pressure washed before installing them back on the tractor. This is one of those jobs that can be done before it is brought in and would save on labor cost.

This Massey Harris tractor front grill was pretty well banged up so the approximately five (5) hours of banging and welding, the grill will be sand blasted with the wheels and tin.

After many hours and our attention to detail during the restoration process, the end result speaks for itself.
