In the fall of 2021 this antique Farmall C came from the northern part of Massachusetts to be restored here at Kuhn’s Equipment Repair in Oxford, NY.
As you can imagine, something from 1950 might need some major repairs. Unfortunately, most tractors that come through our doors need significant maintenance, and this one was no different.
The engine needed to be rebuilt along with the hydra-touch unit with a new control block kit, sleeve boots, mounting gasket & O-ring kit. This tractor initially had a narrow front end, and the customer brought a front axle with a wide front end. It needed new inner tie rod ends, wheel bearing kits, and other miscellaneous work before we installed it on this antique tractor. We repaired the steering with a new cross and bearing, oil seals & bushings. We replaced seals in the rear axle and PTO and installed new brake bands, brake pedal shafts, seals, and gaskets. The seat was completely rebuilt with a new seat spring, shock absorber, seat locator pin, pivot support rod, and all-new stainless-steel hardware.
The fuel tank was cleaned and re-lined, the starter, generator, and carburetor were all rebuilt, and the radiator was re-cored.
We straightened & welded the grill & hitch. Next, all the sheet metal and rims were sandblasted, and the tractor was sprayed with paint remover. Once all pressure washed and cleaned, this Farmall C was primed, sanded, painted & then sprayed with two coats of a clear finish.
Finally, a new wiring harness was installed along with a new battery box, muffler, PTO shield, and steering wheel, and new tires were mounted all around before returning home to Massachusetts.
